In 2020, long before Graffiti Park became a staple in the Las Vegas public art scene, a bold, imaginative project marked the collective’s official debut—and it all started at the Durango YMCA.
Curated by Graffiti Park Las Vegas in collaboration with DREAMR, this massive mural project covered 1,500 square feet and became the very first paint installation under the Graffiti Park name. The project wasn’t just a visual upgrade to the YMCA space—it was the launchpad for what would become a growing movement in creative, community-driven murals across the city.
This inaugural project also served as an introduction for now-recognized names like Trippy Pidgy and Pretty Done, two artists who made their debut within the Graffiti Park collective during this installation. Their vibrant, energetic styles helped shape the playful, optimistic tone of the piece—an aesthetic that still resonates with the community today.
More than just a mural, this installation was part of the first-ever DREAMRLAB activation—a DREAMR initiative designed to inspire innovation and creativity within local spaces like the YMCA. The vision was to transform traditional community hubs into immersive environments that spark imagination, self-expression, and a sense of ownership. And at the Durango YMCA, that vision came to life.
Bold colors, whimsical characters, abstract shapes, and motivational messages now wrap the walls of the YMCA, inviting kids, teens, and families into a space that feels alive with possibility. For many, it was their first introduction to local street art—and for the artists, it was the first step in a journey that’s still evolving.
Looking back, this project laid the foundation for everything Graffiti Park has become: a celebration of local talent, community collaboration, and the power of public art. It wasn’t just paint on a wall. It was the beginning of something much bigger.
And it all started here.
